this is only the beginning
This photograph brings up so many emotions for me. Do you ever wonder what your life would look like to someone looking in from a distance? What would they see? What story does your life tell?
I watched my wife do amazing things in her life. She graduated with her Bachelors faster than I thought possible. I watched her graduate with her Masters of Social Work from LSU then give birth to our oldest son two days later.
After raising our boys until they went to elementary school she immediately got back to work in a career that she absolutely loves. She has big dreams for her future career but that’s not my story to tell. Its hers and I cannot wait to help her share it with the world. We all have our own stories.
I envy her in a way. I see her come home after a long day of work with passion and joy from helping others. My goal and one pursuit in my life has been to do something that provides for my family doing something I love. I finally found that in photography.
However, photography is not the only way I make my income. I have been in the IT / Telecommunications field for 10+ years and it is currently my full time job. Being a IT Technician isn’t a bad job. I like the challenge and enjoy solving technical issues. Those skills have also helped me run my Photography business better and I’m thankful for that. IT work does not drive me. It has always simply been a means to provide for my family.
Photography does something to my soul. It lets me create. There is so much freedom in bringing your artistic vision to life. Capturing the world how you see it. Evoking emotions through pictures and being able to share them with the world. It gives me joy, peace, comfort.
I have a vision of traveling the country helping business owners tell their story. Everyone has a story. Sharing who you are at the very core is liberating. I was a technician for commercial businesses in the greater Baton Rouge area for three years. Day in and day out I would interact with business owners I always asked how they ended up where they are today. I loved hearing their story. There was a common theme in their answers.
At some point they had to take a leap of faith and navigate into the unknown. I’ve decided to do what it takes to finally have a career that I love. I know it wont always be easy but I know it will make me a better person, father and husband. It would give me the flexibility to spend quality time with my family.
This month makes four years since I started my photography business. I’m thankful for all of you for believing in me and supporting me over the years. This is only the beginning.
